Semena Habanero Red
Habenero peppers have been officially the hottest peppers in the world for a long time.
There are a lot of different types of Habaneros. They could differ in shape, in colour, in size, but they have usually one thing in common: they are terribly hot and have a special fruity taste.
Unripe Habanero chillies are green but when ripe their colour ranges from white, yellow, gold, orange, red and brown. Very often it is quite difficult to determinate if a specific chilli is a Habanero or not.
But again> one thing they have in common> they taste great. The taste is fruity as no other chilli and it doesn't matter if it is super hot or for some people even moderate.
The name Habanero gives a hint, that these chillies originated in Cuba. But usually the orign is thought to be the mexican Yucatan, the Caribbean and South America. Most of the red Habaneros originate in Jamaica and the yellow ones from Yucatan. Today, of course the main producers are from the United States. Import to Europe are mainly fron Uganda, Kenia or even Madagascar.
A funny thing is, that inspite of the orign the latin name is capsicum chinense.
Because of their very specific taste and their high heat, the Habenero peppers are very popular ingredients in hot sauces and jerks.
